ROBERT IRVING. No official in Dodge County, Wis., stands higher in the estimation of the public than does Robert IRVING, who is the efficient county clerk. He has been a resident of this county since 1846, but was born in the village of Greenbush, Rensselaer County, N.Y., February 27, 1840, a son of Thomas and Mary (CASEY) IRVING, who were born in the Isle of Erin and immigrated to the United States in 1833. The family consisted of three sons and three daughters, of whom two sons and one daughter are now living: Richard, who resides on the old homestead in Clyman, Wis.; Maria is the wife of Jacob BURGER, of Clyman, Wis.; Robert, our subject. In June 1846, the family located in Wisconsin and settled in the town of Clyman, where the parents passed the remainder of their lives. The other died on the 4th of June 1873, and the father on the 19th of the same month. Robert IRVING came to Dodge County with his parents, being at that time but six years of age, was reared on his father's farm and was educated in the district schools and at Wayland University of Beaver Dam. In the fall of 1860 he began teaching school and was successfully engaged in this occupation for twenty-three years, seventeen of which he was employed in three adjoining districts.

He was married in the town of Elba, Wis., December 16, 1890, to Miss Lizzie LAHM, who was born in the town of Lowell, Dodge County, and is a daughter of John LAHM. Since 1882 Mr. IRVING has made his home in the town of Emmet, in which he has held various official positions, being seven years chairman of that town, and three years chairman of the county board of supervisors. In the fall of 1892, he was elected to the office of county clerk, which position he now holds, and resigned the position of chairman of Emmet, to enter upon the duties of this position. He moved to Juneau December 11, 1892, and there has since made his home. Mr. IRVING is the owner of a fine farm of 177 acres, situated on Sections 5, 8 and 9, in the township of Emmet, and has an eight-acre tract of timber land in Clyman. His farm is in a high state of cultivation and is as valuable a piece of land as there is in the neighborhood. When residing on his farm his postoffice is Watertown, but at present is Juneau. In politics Mr. IRVING is a consistent Democrat. His whole life, with the exception of six years in childhood, has been passed in Dodge County, where he enjoys an extended acquaintance and a well-deserved popularity. He has proven himself faithful and capable in the discharge of public duty, and upright and honorable in private life..
