The business interests of Oscar Fred Conable, cashier, are thoroughly identified with Fultonville, Montgomery County, New York, and at all times he is ready to lend his aid and cooperation to any movement calculated to benefit this section of the Empire state, or to advance its development.

He was one of four children born to Frederick and Fidelia (Doud) Conable, and was born in Cortland, New York, on October 9, 1857. Fredeyick Conable was born in Fabius, New York, on April 15, 1825, and died in Cortland, on April 12, 1911. He was a farmer by occupation, and was the son of David and Celesta (Robinson) Conable. David Conable, paternal grandfather of the subject of this sketch, was born in Bernardston, Massachusetts, on June 2, 1789, and died on August 3, 1854. He was a farmer and removed from Massachusetts to New York state about 1810. His wife, Celesta (Robinson) Conable, was born on August 27, 1798, in Greenville, New York, and died on October 5, 1876. David Conable was the son of John and Amy (Edwards) Conable. John Conable was born in Falltown, now Bernardston, Massachusetts, in 1749, and died on August 26, 1813. His occupation was that of a farmer. Amy (Edwards) Conable was born in 1760 and died on July 7, 1785. The second wife of John Conable was Sarah (Dewey) Conable, who was born in Leyden, Massachusetts, in 1770 and died on October 25, 1806. His third wife was Mrs. Abigail Congdon of Hadley, Massachusetts. The parents of John Conable were Samuel and Rebecca (English) Conable. Samuel Conable was born only a few days prior to his baptism, which took place on April 7, 1717. He died on December 3, 1796. His wife, Rebecca (English) Conable, was born in 1715 and died on December 29, 1791, at the age of seventy-six years. Samuel Conable was the son of Samuel and Mary (Wilson) Diamond Conable. Samuel Conable was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on June 16, 1689, and died "just before November 18, 1746." His wife was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 4, 1699. Samuel Conable was the son of John Conable, the immigrant who came from London, England, probably about 1764, to Boston, Massachusetts. He died in 1724. Fidelia (Doud) Conable, mother of the subject of this sketch, was born in Fabius, New York, on January 7, 1831, and died in Cortland, New York, on October 23, 1901. She was the daughter of Seth Whitmore and Diantha (Cross) Doud. Seth Whitmore Doud died in Preble, New York, at the age of eighty-four years. His wife, Diantha (Cross) Doud, was born in Fabius, New York, and died in the same place.

Oscar Fred Conable received his early education in the district school at Cortland, New York, and at the Cortland Normal School, where he was graduated in 1875. In May 1878, he was graduated from the Poughkeepsie, New York Eastman Business College and then became associated with his father on the farm. In the spring of 1880 he decided to go west and was there for a period of seven months. He then taught school during the winter of 1879-80. From 1880 to 1882 he was bookkeeper with The National Bank of Cortland, New York, then became associated with the Second National Bank of the same place until March, 1883, when he came to Fultonville, where he was employed as bookkeeper, and was appointed cashier of the Fultonville National Bank in 1896, a position he has filled continuously since.

On October 15, 1884, in Fultonville, New York, Oscar F. Conable was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Alice Starin, daughter of Jacob H. and Elizabeth (Van Evera) Starin. She was born in Fultonville, on February 9, 1859, and died on November 11, 1902. Jacob H. Starin was born on August 10, 1830, in the town of Glen, New York, and died on September 14, 1883, from the kick in the head by a horse one month from the time he was injured. He was a farmer. His wife, Elizabeth (VanEvera) Starin, was born in the town of Glen, on January 23, 1836, and died on January 17, 1919. Jacob H. Starin was the son of Abraham and Catherine (Dievendorf) Storm. He was a farmer and was born in the town of Glen, on October 14, 1803 (1903 was typo in book) and died on October 8, 1881. His wife was born in Currytown, New York, on January 22, 1806, and died on April 3, 1883.

Abraham Starin was the son of John Frank and Hannah (Hughtner) Storm, and was born in the town of Glen, on January 6, 1773, and died on October 9, 1847. By occupation he was a farmer. His wife was born in 1773 and died on December 22, 1850. John Frank Starin's parents were Frederick and Elizabeth (Frank) Starin. Frederick Starin was born in the town of Glen, in 1744 and died on April 1, 1826. His wife, Elizabeth (Frank) Starin, was born in 1746 and died on November 16, 1835. She was a descendant of Nicholas Ster, who came from Holland. Frederick Storm was the son of Philip Frederick Adam and Elizabeth (Evertson) Starin. Elizabeth (Van Evera) Starin, mother of Mrs. Conable, was the daughter of Peter and Nancy (Leonardson) Van Evera. Peter Van Evera was born in the town of Root, New York, on March 23, 1803, and died in Fultonville, on January 28, 1891. He was a farmer. Nancy (Leonardson) Van Evera was born on February 10, 1808, in the town of Root, and died there on September 21, 1884. Peter Van Evera was the son of John R. and Mary Elizabeth (Yates) Van Evera. John R. Van Evera was born on June 11, 1781, and died on April 27, 1865. He was the son of Rynier Van Evera, the immigrant from Holland. Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Fred Conable had a son: Starin Doud Conable, who was born in Fultonville, on February 19, 1894, and was drowned in the old Erie canal on May 23, 1908.

Morris Robinson Conable, brother of Oscar Fred Conable, was born in Fabius, New York, December 9, 1852, and died on September 15, 1907, at Monrovia, California. He attended the Cortland Normal School at Cortland, New York, and was graduated from Cazenovia Seminary, in Cazenovia, Madison County, New York, in June, 1871. He then attended Cornell University, where he was graduated in 1876, with the degree of C. E., and in July. 1877, was graduated from the Cortland Normal School.

On August 16, 1882, in Canton, New York, he was united in marriage to Jennette Sarah Perry, who was born January 22, 1855, and died on November 20, 1883. They have one daughter living, Jennette Perry Conable Bovee. His second wife, Florence Easton of Nantucket, Massachusetts, was born in 1888. They have one child, Morris Easton Conable. Mary Arville Conable, a sister of Mr. Conable, was born in Cortland on July 13, 1855 and died at that place. She was married on December 22, 1875, to Waldo Vernon Shearer, who died in the town of Cortlandville, New York. They had one son, Fred Vernon Shearer, who was born in the town of Homer, New York, on September 25, 1881. George Willard Conable, a brother, was born in Cortland, New York, on October 4. 1866, and is now living in Jamaica, New York. His business is that of architect. He was united in marriage to Miss Grace Ford of Dryden, New York. Mr. Conable is a graduate of the Cortland Normal School, class of 1886, and of Cornell University of the class of 1890, with the degree of B. A. Since 1893 he has been located in New York. They have two children: Walter Ford Conable and Mildred Conable. Oscar F. Conable is the president of the Fultonville Textile Company of Fultonville, and cashier and director of the Fultonville National Bank. He is a member of Fultonville Lodge, No.531, A. F. & A. M. and was a member of the Knights of Pythias until the lodge disbanded. During the World war be was chairman of the committee of the Liberty Loan drives. For a number of years he was treasurer of the village of Fultonville, and president of the school board for several years and is still a member.
